How to Get Sh*t Done
1. Find a way to mark your achievement each day
Here's an idea, buy discounted advent calendars or if you have cute homemade ones fill them back up. Doesn't have to be with chocolate because if your aim is to eat less junk food then I see a flaw in my plan.
Why? It takes 21 days minimum apparently to make a habit, and if you take the time to reward yourself each day for doing something towards your goal you are more likely to stick at it.
2. Only compare your progress to yourself
Get the 1 second a day app where you take a picture or a second video each day and make the video of something to do with your goal, a cool healthy salad you made or a poem you wrote and at the end of each month watch it back with some cool montage music. Voila your own transformation scene a la Legally Blonde
3. Use Social Media to your advantage
So yes, social media can be really bad for your self esteem, and can make you compare yourself to a drastically edited version of someone else's life. BUT you can use it to your advantage.
Step 1, Unfollow anyone that makes you feel sh*t. Cos feeling sh*t does not help you get it done.
Step 2, Use Pinterest. The more images about vegan meals or gym workouts you save the more it will show you, which keeps nagging you and reminding you of the goal you set at the beginning of the month. And means you have to do much less research, as someone else has already saved a thousand recipes for you.
4. Write down an affirmation of what will happen
For example:
I enjoy working out.
I write a poem everyday.
And put it somewhere you can see it. Making it a statement as though you already do it will make you feel slightly guilty when you see it AND will help you to visualise that activity as a normal part of your life. Even just the act of writing it down gets the goal out of your head and makes it feel more real.
5. Make a Playlist
Not a playlist for doing the thing, but one to motivate you to do the thing. If you go to the gym after work, listen to motivating songs on your way home to remind you that yes you can do the thing. Your brain is very good at persuading you out of things, I would often come home after uni and really not feel in the mood to go out with my housemates. All it would take was 4 minutes 6 seconds to persuade me, because that is how long Shout out to My Ex by Little Mix is.
