12 NUS Discounts to take Advantage of Before Your Card Expires

I got a helpful email today reminding me that were I not to update my Spotify account I would go from paying 4.99 a month to 14.99 a month. OH GOD. But it was all fine I updated my account and this then reminded me to go and check all of the lovely student discounts I will lose in September when I am no longer receiving a student loan and am unemployed. I.e when I have more need for the discounts than ever.
So I have trawled through NUS extra website for any subscriptions with hefty discounts you should take advantage before your student status is taken away or any with discount codes you should save for when you need them. Of course there are the standard discounts where you just have to show your card in the shop but these are mainly discounts which you could continue to use after your card runs out.
1. Spotify Premium
Saving 4.99-10.99
2. Amazon Student Membership
Free for 6 Months and then HALF PRICE
So if you don't want to pay make sure you watch out for when your trial expires but if you want One Day Delivery, Prime Video and Music for free and then all that for half price, sign up now before your card runs out!
3. Uber
Save £15 off Your First Journey
Enter this discount when you download the app (first timers only). You may want to save this to use when you finally get that job in London or when you want to be sure you get to your interview un-sweaty.
4. Brompton Bike Hire
50% Off Annual Membership. (Or just £2.50 for one day).
If perhaps you want to make an impression and DO want to appear sweaty when you arrive at the office, proving that you are not a lazy millennial, *rolls eyes*, then rock up to the office with one of these. (I didn't say you had to actually ride it in though)
5. 16-25 Railcard
20% Off One Year Railcard
I would die without these discounts and to get another discount on top of that is just magical. So check your expiry date and buy your card before your student status runs out!
6. THE GYM
No Joining Fee
If you have moved home and want an excuse to get out of the house, this discount could be a godsend. Those sneaky little goblins we call "Terms and Conditions" apply to each separate gym, of course, but this is a great flexible membership and when the joining fee can often be up to the same as one month's membership, that is a whole extra month you can do of picking heavy things up and putting them down again.
7. BeSafe Condoms
75% Off
Don't laugh guys (and girls), condoms are expensive. Make the most of this one. If one of your drawers has to look like it belongs to Colin, God of Sex from Love Actually, just accept it and bulk buy.
8. Financial Times Digital Subscription
50% Off
So when you get asked in an interview what news and media you read, you don't just answer, err, Twitter and BBC News alerts?!
9. The Economist
12 Weeks for £1 a Week
See above. This can be cancelled at any time as well so is a good opportunity to try something new.
10. STA Travel
£30 Off Your Next Holiday
Yes I KNOW £30 probably isn't enough to make you think ah yes maybe I can afford that month trip around Asia but if you are already thinking of booking a trip, £30 is still £30 as my mum would say.
11. National Express
20% Off
I would much rather take the train but 20% is not something to sniff at, if you have a trip planned far in advance maybe check out National Express as this is a one time discount rather than having to buy railcard for a whole year.
12. RED Driving School
2 for 1 On The First Two Driving Lessons
Oh so worth it. If you haven't got your driving test yet and aren't in a job, take this as an opportunity to just get it done. A surprising number of jobs expect you to have a driving licence nowadays. Even if you can't afford a car just having one, there, sorted, is so much easier. Plus when you pull out your ID and it is a lovely shade of pink, won't you just feel so much more adulty?
